RI Convention 2010
Report from Montréal . . .
Bob and DG Mary Keely at RI Convention 2010

June 20, 2010

Putnam Rotarians Bob and Mary Keely have reported from the 2010 Convention of Rotary International in Montréal:

President and Governor
RI President Ray Klinginsmith chats with District Governor Mary Keely.

"The opening ceremony was OUTSTANDING!

"The flag ceremony where they parade in the flags of all the countries that have Rotary clubs took your breath. The presentations were also of the highest quality. 17,742 people had pre registered for the conference. In addition they had over 3000 walk ins and around 5000 venders and support people.

"They must have at least 500 Sergeants-at-arms helping guide people from location to location and getting them seated as well as general crowd control. Fleets of buses are moving people from building to building. The overall organization is impressive.

"Tonight we have a special performance in the grand opening by Celtic Thunder and then later by Cirque du Soleil.

"The house of friendship is a place where people gather to relax, meet others, see venders and just have fun. The building where it is located is one block by two blocks square. You can just barely see from one end of the building to the other."

Mary Keely is District Governor for District 7550 (southern West Virginia) for 2010-11.
