Some fifteen Putnam Rotarians, family members and friends spent the day today packing meals for hunger relief with Heven Sent Ministries.
HSM ships food and supplies from a base in Princeton, West Virginia. After the Putnam group donated $1,000 for the costs, members traveled to the HSM warehouse to prepare the goods for shipment.
The group prepared twenty boxes, each containing 48 six-meal packets -- or a total of 5,760 individual meals to ship to Haiti.
The volunteer hands-on project provided the famine-relief food at an actual cost of less than twenty cents for each meal. "It was a wonderful time of fellowship and 'service above self,'" said club president Chet Marshall.
