Winfield graduate nominated for $2,000 scholarship

Jacob Daniel Hill, son of Jerry and Joy Hill of Scott Depot, was named today as winner of a $2,000 college scholarship by Putnam Rotarians.

A 2009 graduate of Winfield High School, Hill enter West Virginia University in the fall to study mining engineering.

This is the third year for the new scholarship program offered through Rotary and designed for outstanding students not otherwise eligible for financial assistance. The funds are paid directly to the college or university by the club.

An older sister is graduating from college this year, and Jacob's brother will be a high school junior in the fall.

Hill is described by school officials as goal-oriented. He expresses himself well, and demonstrates stong leadership skills in working with others.

A member of the South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, he is quick to volunteer services when needed. He presently manages the sound system for church worship services.
