Last Tuesday about 1:00 o'clock Charles McKee got a telephone call. "Who is this?" he wanted to know. "What do you mean, 'I've won $2,000?' Is this some kind of joke?"
But it wasn't a joke. The time had come for the drawing of the $2,000 grand prize in the First Annual Putnam Rotary Raffle and his name had been drawn for the grand prize in the third drawing from 400 tickets in the pot.
There had already been two drawings for $500 each. Cindy Skiles was the first winner in February, and Sam Sentelle won the second drawing in March.
McKee came to the Rotary luncheon meeting today, and found a $2,000 check was waiting for him.
Putnam Rotary raises most of its money for community service projects through personal gifts from its membership and from a charity golf tournament sponsored annually. This year marks the first time for the Putnam Rotary Raffle as a fund-raising event.
