Roseanna Hale
Scholarship winner reports on college experience

December 23, 2008

"My professors I thought were going to be like my high school teachers," Roseanna Hale told Putnam Rotarians today. "They would be available to help anytime."

Hale has finished a semester at Marshall with the assistance of a Rotary scholarship. She wants to be a speech pathologist.

"Everything is on computer now," she said. "You e-mail [your teachers]. 'Hey, I don't understand. What do I do?'

"[They say,] 'look it up in your book. Schedule a meeting.'"

College is a huge transition, says Hale. "I never see anyone from my high school although many of them go to Marshall. But I've met many new people from many states."

Putnam Rotary usually has a gift exchange during the Christmas holidays. This year, members pooled their resources and bought gift cards for every purpose from books to fast food which they presented to their scholarship winner.
