Area jeweler named Rotarian of the Year

Don Broyles, a partner in Calvin Broyles Jewelers of Spring Hill and Teays Valley, has been named Putnam Rotarian-of-the-Year, for his continuing community service and leadership.

Returning after a long absence due to a family illness on the west coast, Broyles was recognized by District Governor Nominee Mary Keely at the club's weekly luncheon meeting today at Scarlet Oaks Country Club.

A charter member of the local club from its beginning in 1995, Broyles has supervised the charity golf tournament, the major fund-raising project of Putnam Rotary, for several years. He served a term as President of the Club in 2004-05, and several years on the club's Board of Directors.

At present serving asGroup Study Exchange Chairman for RI District 7550. Broyles was the team leader for a study tour group to Australia in 2006, a task for which he has been recognized by the district.

He has been twice-honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, for contributions of $1,000 or more to the Rotary Foundation. In additions, he has personally supported community charities through programs such as the Red Cross.

Broyles and his wife, Michelle, make their home in South Charleston. They are the parents of two sons, Ryan and Justin.
