Nine community leaders took a formal pledge today at Wellingtons in Scarlet Oaks to give "service above self" as new members in Putnam Rotary. Formal inductions were made by Keith Blankenship and Lynn Larry Nelson. Blankenship was District Governor (RI District 7550) in 2005-06, and Nelson is an Assistant District Governor.
The new membership class marks the culmination of a "Club Within a Club" review of prospective members, informational sessions, and endorsements. Several of those formally inducted today have been active and participating in service activities.
Dianna K. Casto is Assistant Vice-President for Retirement Services with City Holding (25 Gatewater Road) in Cross Lanes. She resides in Hometown and enjoys hiking and outdoor activities. She has a son, J. J., and a daughter Tasha. Casto was proposed for Rotary membership by Chet Marshall.
David L. Williams is Executive Vice President of Lanham O'Dell & Company (Hurricane), and a Registered Investment Advisor. He has three girls -- Kate, Maggie and Mandy. At home in Scott Depot, Dave enjoys gardening and cooking while closely following WVU football and basketball.
Gary S. Walton is Executive Director of the Putnam County Development Authority. He is President of the West Virginia Development Council. He was a member of the Optimist Club in Jasper, Indiana, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Club Secretary. Gary has four children -- Timmi, Jonathon, Chase and Tai. At home in Hurricane, Gary enjoys music, woodworking and travel.
Clinton E. "Bud" Beaver is Executive Director of the Putnam Aging Program. A former member of the Putnam County Commission and administrator with Putnam County Schools, Bud Beaver touts a long record of community service as a Lions Club member, a Mason, a member of Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias and the Gideons. He presently serves on the Putnam Library Board. At home on Hurricane Creek with spouse Xylphia, Bud's special interests include golf, travel, coin & stamp collecting, and reading.
Scott W. Williamson is Director of Putnam County Parks & Recreation. A member of the Buffalo Masonic Lodge 36, Scott is a Civil War "living historian." Chair of the Putnam County Historic Landmarks Commission, he enjoys travel to historic sites, and renovation and restoration of historic buildings. In addition to Marshall University sporting events, Scott likes hunting, fishing, and just about any outdoor activity.
The Rev. Dr. Melissa L. Pratt is Senior pastor at the Teays Valley Church of God. At home with husband Thom, they have two children -- Hannah and Joshua. In demand as an accomplished vocalist, musician, and public speaker, Pratt's interests include travel, antiques and board games.
Christina S. "Tina" Brumfield is Postmaster for the Scott Depot Post Office. Tina makes her home in Barboursville with her three children -- Hannah, Luke and Darren. Her leisure interests include travel, golf and flying.Also renewing their pledges for service through Rotary today were Eric S. Pritt and Alice E. Riffee.
Pritt is the Manager of United Bank at its Teays Branch. At home in South Charleston with wife Vanessa and their eleven-month old son Creed Alan Pritt. Eric enjoys hunting and fishing. Since his induction in February, Eric has taken on the responsibilities of planning for the annual golf tournament, the club's major fund raising activity.
Alice Riffee, also a frequent visitor with Putnam Rotary before her formal induction last February, is a financial planning consultant with AXA Equitable. Apart from the responsibilities of financial management, she enjoys gardening, camping, fly fishing and rod building. She lives at Red House with husband Larry.
Riffee is presently serving as club secretary.
