ADG CORNER
You meet the greatest people in Rotary . . . . .

During the last few weeks, I have heard the phrase “you meet the greatest people in Rotary” several times. And, after thinking about it, that statement is very true. I can honestly say that I’ve meet some pretty amazing people since I first joined Rotary in 1999. And, I also realize that is it not what they are, but who they are that has inspired me to do more in Rotary.

Rotarians are people who believe in Service Above Self, and live their lives that way. They give of themselves and then give more of themselves, again and again and again. The President of Rotary International, Wilfrid J. Wilkinson, told the incoming district governors at the 2007 International Assembly in February “In Rotary, sharing doesn’t mean giving away what you have to spare, what you don’t need for yourself . . . Sharing means giving of yourself, selflessly, for the good of others.”

As Rotarians, we share so many common values with other Rotarians both here in District 7550 and throughout the world. And, those values are based on selfless principles. With this year’s theme, Rotary Shares, we are given many opportunities to help other people in our communities here and around the world. What will we do to share Rotary this year? Create a new project? Invite someone to join our Rotary Club? Support our district’s leadership? Host a GSE Team? Increase our giving to the Rotary Foundation? There are so many ways to share Rotary. And, whatever we choose to do as individuals, as clubs and as a district will certainly reflect our commitment to sharing, selflessly. Perhaps, that is why you really do meet the greatest people in this organization called Rotary!
