Charlton Jordan, an outstanding 21-year-old gospel singer and songwriter from Nitro, W.Va., is quickly becoming known as "The Voice for a New Generation." The Poca High School graduate has had nine years of voice training under some of the finest vocal teachers in the area. While completing his business degree at WV State University, he has been a featured soloist with the internationally famous Bill Gaither and his widely acclaimed Homecoming Concerts.

Jordan always presents a superb performance whether singing before 40 or 40,000, and on Tuesday, Nov. 14, he will lend his talents to the Putnam County Thanksgiving Dinner at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.

Joining Charlton as the second featured soloist for this unusual dinner meeting -- where keynote speaker will be Gov. Joe Manchin -- will be another gifted and talented 21-year-old vocalist, Olga Petrosyan of Volgograd, Russia. Gov. Manchin was one of the first people Olga met upon her arrival in our state. When she was a small girl, she and her family were forced to flee from the tiny country where they lived to keep from being killed by the ruling government military forces.

She received her college degree in vocal performance last May and has been kept busy touring the United States in concerts. She is currently living with her husband, whom she married in Russia, in nearby South Charleston.

Both of these extremely talented young musicians will have their CDs for purchase by those who come to the dinner. The Putnam County Thanksgiving Dinner will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. Cost is $10 per person. Anyone is welcome to attend, but reservations must be made with the Chamber of Commerce by calling (304) 757-6510 no later than today, Friday, Nov. 10.

A brief segment of this annual event's program is called "For This We Give Thanks." During that time, all who are present for the dinner will be reminded of the many new blessings that have come to our county in the past year as well as the daily blessings we enjoy by living here. This annual Putnam County Thanksgiving Dinner originated with the Putnam County Rotary Club in 1995.

Charlton Jordan has been asked to sing the ever popular "God Bless America" just before Gov. Manchin reminds attendees of the great blessings of living in West Virginia and the United States. The song Olga Petrosyan has chosen to sing earlier in the program is appropriately titled, "Gratitude."

All the citizens of Putnam County are certainly invited and urged to attend, but reservations are necessary.

The luncheon is sponsored jointly by the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, Putnam County Rotary Club and the Lions Clubs of Putnam County.
