Today, Putnam Rotary inducted George P. Smith, Jr. into its membership ranks during a luncheon meeting at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.
A West Virginian by birth, Smith grew up in Fayette County and graduated from West Virginia State University.
For 15 years he was with General Motors, posted in a variety of stations.
In 1983, he became an agent for State Farm Insurance and spent 15 years in managerial assignments before going into agency work.
He came to Teays Valley in 2004 with offices at 3962 Teays Valley Road.
He is a member of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce.
Smith tells us that he has been active in other community organizations, but he wanted to become a Rotarian because of the variety of community projects in which the local club is involved.
When not in the office, George enjoys golfing, handywork and travel.
Active in Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, George is at home in Huricane with wife Sherry and their daughter Alyssa.
Smith was sponsored for Rotary by Chet Marshall.
