'Bad-hair days
no more'

"We women are taught to look our best," Shari Messinger told Putnam Rotarians today. "These thoughts are instilled in us as youngsters."

When men begin to lose their hair, it's normal. But when a woman loses her hair . . . .

Messinger faced the problem of hair loss and she decided to do something about it.

And she did.

She found replacements and augmentations which made her "look good and feel better." Surprisingly, they were convenient to keep, attractive to view, and comfortable to wear.

"Now, when I get up in the morning," she says, "I never worry about a 'bad-hair' day." She slumbers through the night in any position she likes.

A friend told her, "You know, Shari, you could use what you have learned to help other women."

And that was the beginning of Resolutions2, her own business in Barboursville -- a combination of counseling and private, personal assistance -- in a "boutique" atmosphere.

"It's like a shopping experience," she said.

Her clients come to her from Beckley, Portsmouth and Morehead -- throughout the Kanawha Valley and Tri-State area.

Many of those who come to her are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

She has acquired hair replacements, both full and partial, in multiple sizes, styles, and materials. She finds the perfect fit and best level of comfort for each client.

Resolutions2 also counsels women with questions about a mastectomy, a lumpectomy or reconstructive breast surgery.

Affiliated with American Breast Care, Resolutions2 offers a selection of forms which are easy to wear and have a natural feel which can "pass the hug test."

"It's time to stop hiding behind baggy clothes or layers," she tells her clients. "We can find a bra that fits, and it is possible to be equal on both sides."

Resolutions2 offers a broad selection of post surgery bras which are soft, comfortable, and pretty. "They have cotton/spandex pockets that hold breast forms in place and offer a relaxed support that makes them easy to wear."

And augmentation forms are fitted to "lock perfectly in place."

But Shari Messinger's mission of "women helping women" has not detracted from her activity in civic affairs.

She helps bring the interactive "Choices" program to middle school students. And she is President-Elect of the Barboursville Rotary.

The Putnam Rotary meets at noon every Tuesday
at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.
