Jonathan Nisbet brought two medals back to Putnam County this summer from the United States Paralympics Track & Field National Championships.
The competitions were held on June 30 through July 2 in Atlanta, and Putnam Rotary contributed a "happy dollars" grant toward the young athlete's expenses..
Nisbet competed in the shot put and club throw events.
He qualified at the state level in the shot put and javlin. Once he went to Atlanta he was reclassed from the javlin to the club.
The 2006 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field National Championships were the sole qualifier competitions for the 2006 IPC World Championships, which took place Sept. 3-10 in Assen, The Netherlands.
Nisbet is a junior at West Virginia State University majoring in psychology. He is the son of Terri Eggleston of Scott Depot.
U.S. Paralympics is a division of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), formed in 2001 to increase support for Paralympic sport.
The organization also works with national and locally-focused sport groups which offer Paralympic programs to children and other developing athletes.
Through these efforts, U.S. Paralympics promotes Olympic ideals, especially among those Americans who have physical disabilities.
