Chet Marshall challenges Rotarians to unite in service

July 11, 2006

"I may be talking to the choir, here," Chet Marshall told Putnam Rotarians today. "But we're unusual, as a service club in that we have only one major fund-raiser per year.

"We need to pull together," he told the group. "You first make a commitment that you are going to make this project work. Then you persist in pushing it through. And you need to act now."

Past President Don Broyles and Assistant District Governor Randy Lucas joined in with pointers and information on the Annual Charity Golf Tournament on August 14th which is in its eleventh year as a club project.

"We had an anonymous donation from a former member of the club," said Lucas. "He has since moved out of the area, but he wanted to support the tournament because of the value it represented for the community."

Broyles followed with a litany of service projects supported by Putnam Rotary.

The success of the golf tournament over the years has come from the united effort within the club. Community support has been generous.

"One Rotarian had never been to a tournament planning meeting before," said Marshall. "He went off in a corner and by phone signed up a team and three hole sponsors on the spot.

"We have the commitment, we need to be persistent, and act now," he said.

A motivational speaker, author, and international traveler, Marshall has personally initiated and supervised a number of chariatible causes including an international project for Putnam Rotary.

The Putnam Rotary meets at noon every Tuesday
at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.
